In 1958, John Heggland was living in Dumont, New Jersey when a friend asked for his help on a construction site. John said yes and that simple decision became the foundation of the company that followed. The quality of his craftsmanship spoke for itself, and soon his reputation spread throughout the tri-state area, from New Jersey all the way up to Norwalk, Connecticut, where he would commute to for over a year.
By 1962, John had convinced Rose, his wife, to make the move to Connecticut. Together, they founded Mountain Flooring. When their three children—Eric, Ingrid, and Eivind—were born, that commitment deepened, and a family business became a legacy.
As the company grew and their roots in Connecticut strengthened, John and Rose decided to rebrand to Connecticut Floor Supply. This moment cemented their identity as a regional staple dedicated to serving their community. It was a promise that they were here to stay, and they were here to do it right.
Our Heritage
John Heggland was born in a small home in the mountainous valley of Heggland, Bygland, Norway, and the view there is incredible. He came to America with $10 in his pocket and a work ethic that many dream of. By 1962, when he and Rose founded Mountain Flooring, they wanted the name to embody this.
That truck in the photo is what Mountain Flooring looked like then. John and his team used it to get to job sites across the region. John and his team relied on it to reach job sites across the region, putting in long days and honest work.
From the beginning, the philosophy was simple. Show up, do the job right, and keep moving forward. That mindset built trust, earned a reputation, and laid the foundation for the company that exists today.

How we Honor the past in a modern world
When we decided to rebrand Connecticut Floor Supply, we were not interested in starting over. We wanted to carry the past forward and give it a form that still mattered.
Our new logo is rooted directly in John’s story. The herringbone pattern forms a mountain dually serving homage to Mountain Flooring where this all began. The color palette draws from New England itself. These are the colors of the region we have served for more than sixty years and the place where John and Rose built their life and their business.
This rebrand keeps Mountain Flooring present while speaking clearly to today. It ensures that when someone sees our name and logo, they understand what it represents. A company built on consistency, craftsmanship, and the values of a man who arrived with ten dollars and built something meant to last.
